Comprised of paintings, drawings and graphics, Yette Rohde’s artwork centers around the erotic theme. Currently she is working on a series named Huidhonger (“Skin hunger”). In Huidhonger Yette Rohde explores how combinations of material and picturing can evoke a sense of touching and being touched.Through her artwork we are challenged to look above and beyond the all too familiar ideas surrounding sexuality and to marvel at the aesthetics of the erotic. Her creative work process can be followed at Facebook.
Previously Yette Rohde spent 2 years working on the series Vrouwen en Fruit (“Women and Fruit”). Here she plays with media driven representations of women. The series emphasizes that each woman has her own strength and beauty. Rohde is inspired and led by women around her who surprise, challenge and overwhelm or who, in contrast, modestly show themselves.
To get a good impression of Yette’s creative routine and her own thoughts on her work, you are envited to watch the short documentary made by Jan Leisink for TV Nijmegen:
Yette Rohde works as a full time visual artist in Nijmegen and teaches art workshops model drawing, model painting, landscape painting, introductory courses and so-called ‘Open Atelier Sessions’ in her own studio: Website Atelier Rohde. During summer she works for Stichting Buitenkunst and incidentally she is a guest teacher for art projects at local middle schools.
In 2009 Yette graduated at the Fine Art department at Artez in Arnhem. Before that she completed her studies as a visual creative therapist in 2001 at the HAN University of Applied Sciences in Nijmegen.
